Imagine this: it is mid-winter, it’s freezing cold outside and you are working through the mid-week grind. The Gili Islands are a boat-ride away from the main island of Bali. Bali is known for it’s crazy nightlife, beautiful beach, and cheap resorts. The Gili Islands are nearby and similar, but much less touristy and way more serene. It isn’t anywhere near as busy as the beaches on Bali, so they are much better kept: white sand and blue waters. What else could you want?

9. Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre (Italy)

The Cinque Terre is an area with five beautiful villages which are walking distance from one another in Northern Italy. There is much to say about Italy itself, or even just this area, but the most spectacular part of the Cinque Terre are their beaches. Walking along them – some at the edge of the villages – you can see the beautiful colored houses against the backdrop of large cliffs. The beach itself is vibrant, especially during summer. The Cinque Terre is a must for any adventurer.

8. Wineglass Bay, Tasmania (Australia)

Wineglass Bay is aptly named. Its water is clear, smooth and flat. It is surrounded by the beautiful ‘Tassie’ landscape. Just to get there you are forced to see the beautiful views. This is a must-see for everyone. If you manage to get down to the beach itself, which isn’t so easy, you will have the beach practically to yourself. It is at the end of the world, so very few travellers manage to get all the way down to Tasmania. Once there, still fewer have the chance to hit the beach. If you’re up for a challenge well worth the while, head down to Wineglass Bay.

The Seven Mile Beach is an award-winning beach. It is exactly what you would imagine when thinking of Caribbean perfection. White sands, blue seas, and palm trees scattered here and there. It is the ultimate paradise. The Cayman Islands are very accessible from the U.S., so you really don’t have an excuse not to go (unless you’re not from the U.S. of course!). So, what are you waiting for?

6. Koh Samet Beach, Thailand

Koh Samet Beach is on a small island off the coast off Thailand. You can’t get there easily by car, but you can fly. Once you are there though you are in for a real treat. It is the perfect place for snorkelling, as the waters are clear and shallow. You are on a white-sand beach against the backdrop of the beautiful Thai scenery. You can get massages, kayaks and delicious Thai food either on the beach itself, or just a short walk away. True serenity!
